YDH Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Erwan Bin Dato’ Haji Mohd Tahir is one of Malaysia's businessman and a corporate figure. Heading several Public Listed Companies as Chairman and as their shareholder.
His involvement in the business industry started since year 1997 when he got the job for making medium scale contracts such as Building Construction, Highways, and Painting Works. Amongst his first jobs were to paint the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister's Residence, KL International Airport, Sepang F1 Circuit and Suria KLCC.
In 2006, he was involved in the business for Timber and Iron Ore concessions in the State of Pahang and Kelantan. His major achievement was in the year 2009, when he started to diversity the group business by taking over the largest Switchgear and Transformer Company in power industry of Malaysia.
In 2010, his group has taken over the biggest Rice Vermicelli Company in Malaysia which now, controlling 80% of the local market.
In 2012, he expanded his group business and ventured into Coal Mining in Samarinda, West Kalimantan, Indonesia for international exports.
To diversify, he penetrated the Defense and Security industry where invested in supply of the Aircrafts, Helicopters, Boats, Armoured Vehicles and Artilleries for the local Military and Police force. His group also venture into manufacturing the first Malaysian made Electrical Bus.
At present, his group own the largest Fertiliser and Agro Chemical manufacturing company in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Cambodia.
In 2018, his group undertook one of the local University Colleges to support Government initiative on TVET for the youth and now in the midst of progressing it to a University.
One of his latest project is the cultivation of Cannabis plants or Hemp, which derives from the family of Marijuana plant for the process of Cannabidiol or in other word known as CBD Oil. On the same note, he is also into Marijuana farming for Medical Marijuana. Both CBD Oil and Medical Marijuana is to be exported globally.
Recently, his group just take over a rubber glove maker company with a capacity to produce about 3.5 billion pieces of nitrile disposable glove per year and exported to over 100 countries worldwide.
He is also an active member of several Associations and NGOs namely Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia (DPMM), Persatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia (PKMM), Persatuan Usahawan Tenaga Malaysia (PUTM), Arab Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCC), British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) and The Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM).
He hold few posts in the National Entrepreneur and Contractor's Association as the President for Pertubuhan Pedagang Dan Peniaga Kebangsaan Malaysia (PERDANA) and President for Persatuan Kontraktor Tenaga Malaysia (PKTM).
He is also the Advisor for Persatuan Kebajikan Keluarga Bekas Polis Dan Tentera (POLTERA) and Advisor for RELA Honorary Club, Jabatan Sukarelawan Malaysia (RELA), Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) and also Persatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia (PKMM).
In the National Crime Prevention and Anti Corruption bodies, he holds positions as National EXCO Member for Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and as a Member of Sahabat Gerakan Revolusi Anti Rasuah (GERAH), Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) and as the Vice Chairman 1 for Kesatria Muda Keselamatan 1 KDN (KMK1KDN) under Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN).
In 2020, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as the Board Member of Perbadanan Putrajaya. Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) or Putrajaya Corporation (PjC) is a local authority that administers the Federal Territory of Putrajaya and is under the Department of Federal Territories of Malaysia, Prime Minister Department. Founded in 1995, the corporation is responsible for public health and sanitation, waste removal and management, capital planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development, and the general maintenance functions of the urban infrastructure of Putrajaya.
Recently he was appointed by the Minister of Higher Education as the CEO for Polytechnics and Community Colleges (PolyCC) Nilai, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus and as the Chairman of Industry Advisory Committee under Department of Polytechnics Education and College Community, Ministry of Higher Education.
He also sits on numerous local and foreign Board of Companies, both Public Listed Company (PLC) and Private Companies including the Subsidiaries Companies in which he holds the position as Chairman and the Board of Directors.
The companies are HEXTAR Global Berhad, EPE Power Corporation Berhad, SERSOL Berhad, KBB Resources Berhad, ERWAN Berhad, MKH Berhad, Perbadanan Putrajaya and Genovasi University College.
He has an extensive network and experience in Property Development, Mining, Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Defense Technology and Education and has served at senior positions in Government Department and senior advisory capacity on Public Policy, Socio-Economic Development, Capacity Building, Institutional Reform, Change Management and Stakeholder Management. Aside from that, he has extensive strategy and transformation and business turnaround advisory experience.
He has led and invested in a number of Mergers & Acquisitions, Restructurings and Financings, Cross-Border transactions, Leveraged Buyouts and other investment projects of various sizes and complexity and across a variety of sectors, including Media and Entertainment, Consumer and Retail, Energy and Resources, Real Estate and Hospitality, Commodities and Infrastructure.
He graduated from University of Wales (UK) with Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing Management in 2005 through an academic collaboration with KLC-Centre of Higher Studies Kuala Lumpur and subsequently received Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Management in 2012. It's a hybrid program in collaboration between KLC-Centre of Higher Studies Kuala Lumpur with University of Wales (UK).
Recently, he had been receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship from a local distinguished institution, Netherland Maritime University College (NMUC).
Receiving an Honorary Doctorate (Dr.) is a recognition of a lifetime of dedication and achievements in business, academic, and public service. This marks the second time he have been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate from a local university.
With over 15 years of many significant accomplishments, he is now the Group Executive Chairman of EPE Power Corporation Berhad where he is contributing his wealth of experience immensely to transform the EPE Group of Companies to propel the way forward towards realising the vision of the Group.
